My name is Susan Louw. I am a first year student in Genetic Counselling at The University of Cape Town. I have a background in genetics, psychology and teaching and obtained my Master’s degree in 2016 in Behavioural Genetics. My research interests are in the experiences of participants in genetic research after a sudden infant death (SIDS) in the family. This will form a qualitative part in a Forensic Genetic study being conducted at UCT. I am also interested to see if a genetic counsellor can contribute to this process in a positive way and in follow-up sessions with the research participant when possible genetic results pertaining to SIDS, are found. I am very excited to be entering this field.
