My name is Clair Engelbrecht (nee Ingram).
My academic history includes an undergraduate degree in genetics and human physiology which I obtained from UCT. I then did my honours in human genetics at Wits university. Since Cape Town is my home I had to come back and so I did where I started my Masters degree in Genetic Counselling. It is my passion to work with people and combined with my love for science and genetics, this career choice was a no brainer. My Masters dissertation is titled: "Perceptions of Health-Related Quality of Life among Adults living with Sickle Cell Disease in Cape Town, South Africa"; my supervisor is Professor Ambroise Wonkam who inspires me with his passion for research in sickle cell disease and my co-supervisors are Nakita Laing and Sumaya Mall who have endlessly dedicated their time in helping me conduct and write up my work.
Outside of work I am a dancer with a passion for outdoor sports. I work hard and play hard as life is all about balance!
